This blog is dedicated to all the snow contractors who work over Christmas, the holiday season, and all the past holiday seasons. Thank you for working so hard to keep our roads safe.
‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the town,
Equipment was stirring, and snow falling down.
Tractors and plows cleared roads through the night,
The crisp winter air chilling bones with a bite.
I knew that children were sleeping, all snug in their beds,
Waiting for Santa, that big guy in red.
Sitting in a tractor with the heat on full blast,
Dreaming of when I could get home at last.
Suddenly my tractor crashed with a clatter,
I jumped from the cab to see what was the matter.
As I surveyed the crash, I was completely thrown off.
I had hit a red sleigh. I saw Santa and Rudolph.
I stared and I gaped, not believing my eyes.
Santa stared back. We were both so surprised.
“Well looky here” he exclaimed, his cheeks rosy red,
“It appears that your tractor has damaged my sled.”
I rushed over to help Jolly Old Saint Nick,
I hoped with my heart I could fix his sled and quick.
As hard as I tried, I saw no solution,
And, what scared me the most, I had no substitution.
“I’d lend you my tractor but its too heavy, I fear,
Not even dear Rudolph could haul my John Deere.”
“I need a replacement” Santa cried with a frown,
“Without a sled, how will I make it around town?”
An idea flooded into my mind with a flash.
I ran to my tractor and grabbed my phone in a dash.
“I know a way! We can rent you one quick!
Don’t worry, it’s really fast. I’m here for you, Nick.”
Santa watched over my shoulder, it only took a minute.
I typed in the address. They said they’d deliver it!
A truck soon approached us and we waved it down.
A man opened the door and jumped to the ground.
“We made an exception, since sleighs aren’t typical equipment,
But who would we be if we didn’t embrace the Christmas spirit?”
Within a few minutes, Rudolph and Santa were in place,
Santa prepared to take off and leave the site with no trace.
“I’m sorry I hit you!” I blurted in shame.
“I’m sorry to have caused you any kind of delay.”
“Ho! Ho! Ho! It’s been no time at all!
This DOZR rental kept me from dropping the ball.
But I think it is time for you to stop clearing snow.
It’s Christmas, after all. You ought to go home.”
With a twinkle in his eye, Santa’s nose gave a twitch.
The snow suddenly stopped, as if turned off by a switch.
He picked up his reigns and gave Rudolph a whistle,
And away the sleigh flew, a straight shot like a missile.
I heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight,
HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT!
